Manchester United keeper Kuszczak in line for Chelsea start

   

According to reports Manchester United are set to hand the keeping gloves to Tomasz Kuszczak for their clash with Chelsea.

Anders Lindegaard is out with an ankle injury and there are also illness doubts for David De Gea.

While youngster Ben Amos was given his chance against Stoke City on Tuesday night, the Daily Mail claims Kuszczak had extra training at Carrington on Wednesday in readiness for the match at Stamford Bridge.

Not Another Right-Back?

Although the transfer window may have slammed shut at 23:00 hours on Tuesday evening, it doesn`t bring to a complete halt transfer speculation.

One news source I stumbled across today has Manchester United showing interest in yet another player who plays at right back.

With nothing coming of the Nathaniel Clyne rumours when the transfer window was open, this source has us showing an interest in the young Nice defender Diacko Fofana
Fofana is still seventeen years of age but having broken into the Nice first team this season, he`s attracted sufficient attention for United to sit up and take notice

One to keep an eye on, over the coming months; quite possibly?

Kuszczak Woe!

Yet another transfer window has passed without our Polish keeper, Tomasz Kuszczak, getting the move he craves.

Kuszczak, who has made mutterings in the past about wanting to get away to get some regular football, seems to be fourth in the pecking order these days behind Lindegaard, De Gea and young Ben Amos.

On Tuesday evening, against Stoke City, we had a rare sighting of Tomasz as he sat on the bench. Whilst accepting that Ben Amos would have been delighted to have made his debut, you can`t help but feel for a keeper who is watching his career slip by away from the glare of first team action.

Three to Four Weeks!

The news that broke relating to Anders Lindegaard picking up an ankle in training probably couldn`t have come at a worse time for the Danish keeper.

Having edged aside David de Gea since the Blackburn defeat over the festive break, Lindegaard appeared to have established himself as first choice, something that could have been further enhanced with De Gea sidelined with an illness in midweek.

However, according to the tabloid press, Lindegaard will be out for a period to three to four weeks as he recovers from his injury, we`d imagine by the time he recovers, De Gea may well hold the upper hand.

What is it they say about competition for places being healthy?

Amos Keen to Start!

Stamford Bridge, this Sunday, could be a testing ground for young Ben Amos to make his first Premier League away start for Manchester United.

The keeper, deputizing for De Gea and Lindegaard, made his first start for United, against Stoke, and did himself proud.

Naturally, Amos is looking for an extended run in the side and has spoken about just such a thing, to the media, remarking,

"I`ve obviously been waiting a long time for an opportunity this season and thankfully its come and I`d like to think I`ve made the most of it. I feel I`ve been ready to play at this level all season."

"It can be frustrating when the chances don`t come around but you`ve got to be ready."

"When it does happen, you`re thrown straight in as I was."

"All I can do is go out and do my best and put pressure on the other keepers in training and try to get a chance in the games. But it`s the managers` decision."

Would you be happy for Amos to keep his place or does Stamford Bridge call for a little more experience?

Giggs looks for title springboard

Ryan Giggs believes if Manchester United can come through their testing month of fixtures it could provide the impetus for another successful Barclays Premier League title challenge.
United visit Chelsea on Sunday, after which they must tackle Liverpool and Tottenham, which a visit to Norwich - who have lost just three times at Carrow Road this season - in between. Little wonder no-one at Old Trafford is getting too confident, even though they moved level on points with Manchester City by beating Stoke on Tuesday night.
"We have shown reasonable form and if we can get good results in those kinds of games, confidence will be sky high," Giggs told Inside United.
"We know that it's a tough run, but those are the games you want to be playing in.
"We are not quite at the make-or-break part of the season, but it is an important time, and we know that if we win those games, then we'll be in good shape and good form going into the run-in. We know what's ahead of us and what we have to do."
With both Giggs and Sir Alex Ferguson talking positively about a contract extension, it seems certain the veteran Welshman will extend his career into another season.
Such has been his impact, it seems highly likely that long-time team-mate Paul Scholes will join him after the midfielder abandoned his retirement at the beginning of last month.
"I thought he'd retired too early - a lot of people did," said Giggs.
"Scholesy probably thought he'd made up his mind and when you've done that, you can't really change it.
"But he was still the best in training with the reserves, so he obviously felt he could still do it. Nobody was going to disagree with that and it was a massive boost when we found out he was coming back before the Manchester City game."

Manchester United keeper Lindegaard out for a month

According to reports Manchester United goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard will be out for four weeks.

The Daily Mail claims Lindegaard has been ruled out for up to four weeks with an ankle injury.

It leaves United boss Sir Alex Ferguson with a goalkeeping headache ahead of Manchester United's clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

If the error-prone David de Gea is still unwell, Ferguson must decide whether to hand the gloves to out-of-favour Tomasz Kuszczak, or youngster Ben Amos.

Amos kept a clean sheet on his Premier League debut in Tuesday's win over Stoke after Lindegaard turned his ankle in training and De Gea was declared unfit.

De Gea, a £17.8 million summer signing from Atletico Madrid, came in for more criticism after last weekend's FA Cup defeat at Liverpool.
